Beginning December 1 2025, all students will be required to complete the 20 minute training on Work Zones in order to receive credit for their drivers ed class. Information and link to enroll are listed below.

In person classes: Students may take it at any time before the class ends, and will need to show their class instructor their completion certificate during class. They may print, or download the certificate and show an email/picture.

Online Students: Students may submit the certificate when they submit their RIP form .

Students that do not complete the training are not eligible for a drivers education completion certificate.

Recent changes to G.S. 115C-215 and G.S. 20-88.1 mandate the addition of a highway work zone training course to the driver education curriculum effective December 1, 2025. All under-18 driver education students that begin DE on or after this date will be required to complete the course developed or adopted by the Division of Motor Vehicles as part of their driver education program.

G.S. 20-88.1 required the Division to either create or adopt a highway work zone training course that is accessible to the public, regardless of age, and be available in both online and in-person formats. Additionally, the Legislature added G.S. 115C-215(6), directing DPI to integrate DMV’s course into the existing under-18 driver education curriculum.
